Sakara Level II: Detox Review

I tried the Sakara Life Signature Program meal delivery over the summer and fell in love. I enjoy being in the kitchen and cooking my own meals majority of the time, but I realize as a nutritionist, life gets busy and it’s nice to have options in order to stick to goals and feel our best. I like to try meal delivery options for myself to recommend to my clients so they also have the option when life gets busy. It is a pricey meal delivery service, but out of all the meal delivery services I have tried, it has been the absolute best and worth every penny. You get what you pay for. It is a plant-based meal delivery service consisting of organic vegan and gluten-free meals available nationwide.

Since I enjoyed Sakara’s Signature Program so much, I wanted to take things to the next level and try their Level II Detox. If you have been following me for a while or are a client of mine, you know I am not a fan of fad diets, rapid weight loss supplements, juice cleanses and detox tummy teas. The Level II Detox is not meant for people looking for a quick fix.  Rather this is a difficult journey to give your digestive system a break, mentally slow down (yes, that means taking a break from working out) and to check back in with yourself and your food choices.

The Sakara Level II Detox program is developed in partnership with Dr. Aviva Romm, who is one of the top functional medicine doctors in New York and an expert in women’s health. If you sign up for the program you will receive 5 days worth of food, supplements (AM and PM), tea and beauty & detox water drops. This 5-day deep clean claims it will help reset hormones, metabolism, detoxification processes and immunity and help heal inflammation within the body.

HOW I FELT DURING THE CLEANSE:

Day-to-day I felt great but come evening time I was hungry. Remember, you are eating foods during the day, but only sipping a broth the first 4 evenings and then the 5thday is all solid foods to help you transition back into your normal food filled diet. The food is delicious, and the supplement packs were a great addition to help with nutrient absorption, digestion and overall energy levels. I had more energy each day I completed and would wake up without an alarm around 6AM each morning ready to start the day. I already have regular bowel movements, but over the 5 days things were next level (if you catch my drift). I also peed so much because of the amount of fluid you are taking in and thanks to the detox tea provided and the fiber packed meals, I had zero bloating. I will say, I did not enjoy the soup day. The carrot soup was delicious, but the green soup I had to choke down.

If you’re curious or have wanted to try the detox program, here are my honest closing thoughts:

Day 1 and Day 2 were normal during the day, but the evenings were more of a challenge. I was definitely hungry, but honored it, hydrated and meditated. I found that going on long walks and staying somewhat busy helped too. I never experienced low energy levels, it was actually quite opposite.  I found myself getting up earlier, my skin was glowing and no signs of bloating. Day 3-5 got easier as my body started to not need as much food in the evenings.

Another thing I enjoyed about the detox is that it teaches you how to properly fast in-between meals. I do not recommend intermittent fasting; however I do believe in fasting between dinner and breakfast (12 – 13 hours) and between meals (4-5 hours) in order for proper digestion.

I want to clarify; I am comfortable with my size and my body. I do not know what I weighed before and I don’t know what I weighed after. I was feeling a little sluggish and something felt off. I decided to try this program because I like to give my digestive tract a break a couple of times per year. If its within your budget ($400) definitely try it out and see for yourself. If not, I also have a 5 to 7 day meal plan ($250) that helps reset taste buds, strengthen the gut and balance out hormones. You just have to cook the meals yourself, but I provide everything else along with nutrition consulting.
